Packed n Ready .. nearly ;)
This afternoon, we head out for Athens again. This time, we're taking the bus rather than the train. We've purchased reserved seats on the bus, so it should make the 4 hour trip a bit more tolerable than fighting for a seat at the station. We opted for the bus rather than the train because it'll be a different path (more direct) and will consume 2 hours less of the day. Hopefully it means we'll get Grunge into Athens in a remotely good mood, ready for a night's sleep before a big day.
The last couple of days (since my brother and his girlfriend arrived) have been a combination of absolute whirlwind and slow relaxation.
We traipsed our way through Ancient Olympia, seeing the ruins there. That was positively amazing and there was a lot more there than I expected. For example, whole columns that had been toppled back as long ago as 500AD. The Temple of Zeus was something I had been really hanging to see there, as well as the actual running track. Unfortunately, some asshat decided many years ago that the statues weren't what Greece needed any longer and as such, there's none of the bronze statues there anymore. Disappointing, but hey, all part of history I guess.
In between relaxation, we also had another visit to the village, this time for a formal(ish) get together with "family". We had a fantastic night in the village square, eating the massive spread that was put out for us. As difficult as communication was for a few moments in there, it wasn't hard to have fun :) More on that later!
Off back to the hotel to finish up packing now. More updates from Canada I guess!
