Jetsetting and Life

Well, after months, nay years of planning, we’re finally off on that family trip to Greece.  Our trip will be somewhat extended in that after a couple of weeks in Greece, we are then off to Canada for another 3 weeks.  After some sage advice tonight from a step-aunt, I’m confident this’ll go well ;)  For those who have my phone number, please bear in mind that I’m available as normal, however it’s rudely expensive and there’s a number of timezones involved!

Our preparations this week were thrown out somewhat after the passing of my grandfather last Sunday.  Being that my parents are currently overseas, there’s a few things we had to do that they probably would normally have done, or at least been around for.  As much as the last couple of months have been a massive shock for all of us, my aunt has probably seen and done more than she probably ever expected to have to deal with.

My grandfather’s funeral was on Thursday afternoon; he couldn’t have picked better weather for it.  Blue skies and just enough cool breeze to be fresh on our cheeks when we ducked outside afterwards for some fresh air.  It was a lovely service and I was really proud to have been a part of his family and to have known him.

As difficult as it is to find an upside in having my grandfather pass away, the one I did manage to find was that all the cousins got together again.  For some of us, it was one of the only times we’ve seen each other in 20 years or so.  For someone who’s 29, that’s shocking!  Mental note: make better effort to see family.

And on that note, whilst we’re all packed for our trip, there’s still some cleaning to do :)
