Some places just feel like home
Our hotel room in Toronto (out near the airport) was exactly what we needed. We'd been "roughing it" a bit in Greece to keep the costs down since Euros are more expensive than Canadian dollars, however for the same prices as we were paying in Greece, we were now getting 4-5 star hotel rooms ;)
The room we were put in initially was vastly different from the room we'd booked and it was novel to have the lady from the front desk come up, all apologetic and help us move into the proper room. Aside from Zaharo where the owner of the hotel had gone out of his way to accommodate us with Cody, there hadn't been much in the way of customer service in Greece. To have this woman be polite and apologetic was comforting *laugh*.
In our real room, we had a set of bunks and some bean bags etc in the front area of the room, then a bedroom in the back area of the room. These were separated by a kitchenette and bathroom and everything - everything - was plush as. Going to sleep in our king size bed was the best sleep I'd had in weeks :P Cody, who'd been asleep for 5 hours previous, rocked up at the hotel, had a bit of a play, had a milk drink, then went back to sleep till about 5:30am. Way more sleep than she'd probably normally have, which is why she woke up early. No complaints there - the little kid was insta-calm too.
Breakfast heralded a search for the perfect breakfast buffet. We found a Crowne Plaza to eat at and it was hell funny to watch Cody eat French toast and croissants in Canada :P
At midday, C & J came to pick us up to drive back to Sarnia. Home away from home *grin*. It was bloody great to see them again. The last time had been 4 years or so earlier, so seeing them was well overdue! :)
Sarnia had grown up a bit as well. The housing developments in the north had stretched out to the schools that had been plonked in the middle of fields 12 years ago. To be honest, I never thought I'd see the day where I had to find the schools amongst other buildings :P Amusingly, the population doesn't seem to be increasing particularly quickly, so who knows what all the houses are for.
Tell you what, it was nice to finally let Cody wander around in a home atmosphere. Everywhere we put her down in Greece, she came up black on her hands, knees and feet, so it got to the point where we avoided doing so. Here, she was crawling around on carpet, which she hadn't seen for three weeks, she was able to have a bath every night. And last but not least, we all went outside to play on the luscious lawn :D
