Personalised Google

I’m a big fan of my personalised Google homepage.  It lets me keep an eye on blogs I don’t necessarily remember to go and look at (I’m a little bit at the point where I get on the Internet and go “I’m bored” so I’ve started forgetting most of the sites I used to visit regularly) and it gives me my portal for searching.

The things I mostly search for from that page, are word meanings – hence my dictionary.com search window on the Google page – and normal web searching that everyone uses Google for.

I’ve noticed lately however, that whilst I love my personalised homepage, it is so VERY distracting!!

So not 5 minutes ago, I opened my browser, waited patiently for the homepage to render, and saw there’d been updates on some of the blogs I normally read!  I read the updates on them, then closed my browser.  As I closed my browser, I realised that I had actually opened my browser for a reason and that I was still no wiser on what I had been planning on searching Google for!  Way too easily distracted methinks   Maybe that and a dose of “getting older”

I know what you mean. I've started to use the google side bar instead so that I leave the search page uncluttered. Just subscribed the feeds to "Web Clips" section and occationally look over there.
